WHAT IS THOUGHT FIELD THERAPY?
A Practical Approach to Reducing Emotional Distress
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is a therapeutic approach designed to help reduce emotional distress by combining focused attention with gentle tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body.
Developed by psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan, TFT has been used by mental health professionals, physicians, coaches, first responders, military personnel, and humanitarian organizations around the world to help people manage emotional challenges more effectively.
For many individuals, TFT offers a practical way to reduce the intensity of difficult emotions, making it easier to think clearly, respond calmly, and continue the work of healing.
MORE THAN TAPPING
People often describe TFT simply as "tapping."
While tapping is certainly part of the process, it's only one component of a much larger clinical framework.
What makes Thought Field Therapy unique is its emphasis on careful assessment and individualized treatment. Rather than applying the same technique to every situation, TFT uses specific diagnostic procedures to identify the most effective treatment approach for each person's emotional experience.
That focus on precision is one of the reasons I've dedicated so much of my professional life to teaching and advancing this work.
HOW DOES TFT WORK?
During a TFT session, you'll focus on a specific emotional issue while gently tapping on a sequence of acupuncture points.
The goal is to help calm the body's stress response so that distressing emotions become less intense and easier to process.
Many people describe feeling calmer, clearer, or more emotionally balanced after a session.
Although everyone's experience is different, TFT is designed to complement—not replace—the therapeutic process by helping reduce emotional barriers that can make healing more difficult.
WHAT CAN TFT BE USED FOR?
Thought Field Therapy has been applied in many settings to help address emotional distress related to:
✔ Anxiety
✔ Trauma and PTSD
✔ Stress
✔ Phobias
✔ Grief
✔ Panic attacks
✔ Performance anxiety
✔ Addiction recovery
✔ Emotional overwhelm
✔ Everyday life challenges
Because TFT is adaptable, it has been used in private practice, hospitals, disaster response settings, military environments, schools, humanitarian missions, and community mental health programs around the world.
WHY I TEACH TFT
I've spent much of my career searching for approaches that are both compassionate and effective.
When I was introduced to Thought Field Therapy, I recognized its potential to help people who had struggled for years with emotional pain that often felt resistant to traditional approaches alone.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of studying, teaching, refining, and sharing TFT with professionals across many disciplines.
What continues to inspire me is not simply the technique itself, but the hope it offers.
Helping professionals gain practical tools that can make a meaningful difference in someone's life is deeply rewarding, and it's one of the reasons I continue teaching today.
IS TFT RIGHT FOR EVERYONE?
Like any therapeutic approach, TFT is one tool among many.
Some individuals benefit greatly from incorporating it into therapy, while others may require different or additional approaches depending on their goals and circumstances.
I believe the best care is always individualized.
Rather than asking whether every person should receive TFT, I ask whether TFT is the right tool for this person, at this moment, for this particular concern.
That philosophy has guided my work throughout my career.
WHAT PROFESSIONALS APPRECIATE ABOUT TFT
Professionals from a wide range of disciplines are drawn to Thought Field Therapy because it is:
✔ Practical and easy to learn
✔ Adaptable across many professional settings
✔ Designed around individualized assessment
✔ Easy to integrate into existing clinical work
✔ Applicable for both personal and professional use

Many practitioners tell me that learning TFT expands both their confidence and their clinical toolkit.
WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING
“I took the TFT Boot Camp over a weekend in Calgary this past spring, and despite being somewhat skeptical at first, I have to say by the end of the weekend I had decided it was fabulous! I felt awesome after that weekend, and since then TFT has helped me deal with some physical and emotional challenges in my life, and left me feeling energized and ready to face more challenges! I would love to learn more and take the Toxins course, and have set those as my goals.
Dr. Bray was a fantastic instructor with a lot of personal experience and analogies to color the training, making the weekend interesting, informative, and most of all invigorating!”
